Some people make an impact through a single act of kindness. Others leave a legacy through a lifetime of service. Uncle Ray Crosby did both.
For 16 years, Uncle Ray was one of I Am A Queen's most faithful supporters. Affectionately known as "Uncle Ray," he served as a trusted elder within the organization, encouraging girls, supporting families, and volunteering wherever he was needed. Whether serving at the Queen Arise Leadership Program, the Annual Back-to-School Giveaway, the Christmas Adoption Program, or countless other events, his steady presence and servant's heart embodied the values of leadership, generosity, and community.
A proud 1970 graduate of James B. Dudley High School, Uncle Ray excelled in football, track, and wrestling before earning a track scholarship to North Carolina A&T State University. He honorably served his country in the United States Air Force before beginning a distinguished career with IBM, where he worked for nearly 40 years.
His commitment to service extended far beyond his professional career. Uncle Ray faithfully served at St. Paul Baptist Church as a trustee, usher, and member of the Male Chorus. He was also a passionate advocate for James B. Dudley High School, serving as President and Vice President of the Dudley Athletic Booster Club and as the founding president of the James B. Dudley Hall of Fame and Hall of Distinction. A 2005 Hall of Distinction inductee himself, his love for Dudley was unmatched. He proudly bled Dudley Blue and Gold.
Above all, Uncle Ray was a devoted husband to his wife, Jocelyn, with whom he shared 52 years of marriage, a loving father to Brian and Jennifer, and a proud grandfather. His life reflected faith, humility, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to uplifting others.
Following Uncle Ray's passing on January 31, 2026, I Am A Queen established the Uncle Ray Crosby Legacy Scholarship to honor his extraordinary life and ensure his legacy continues for generations to come.
Presented annually during the I Am Becoming HER Teen Empowerment Conference, the scholarship recognizes a young woman who exemplifies outstanding leadership, servant-hearted character, academic achievement, and a commitment to making a positive impact in her school and community.
The Uncle Ray Crosby Legacy Scholarship stands as a lasting tribute to a man who dedicated his life to serving others and investing in the next generation. Through this scholarship, his legacy of leadership, excellence, and community service will continue to inspire young women as they become the leaders they are called to be.
